Eleocharis Vivipara – Tall Hairgrass Aquarium Plant for Background Aquascaping

Eleocharis vivipara, commonly known as Tall Hairgrass, is a beautiful and elegant aquarium plant characterized by its long, thin, grass-like leaves. It is widely used in aquascaping to create a natural, flowing background that mimics underwater grasslands.

Unlike shorter hairgrass species, Eleocharis vivipara grows much taller, often reaching heights of 30–60 cm, making it perfect for background placement. Its fine leaves sway gently with water movement, adding a dynamic and calming effect to the aquarium.

One unique feature of this plant is its ability to reproduce via plantlets that grow directly from the tips of its leaves (viviparous growth), giving it a distinctive and natural propagation style.

Eleocharis vivipara is relatively easy to grow and adapts well to a wide range of aquarium conditions. It thrives under moderate lighting and benefits from nutrient-rich substrates.
